Whether you want to work for Google, excel at a new field or learn from your own failures, you MUST be intellectually humble. It’s connected to a growth mindset where you believe that your capabilities depend on your attitude and effort, and you think failure is an opportunity to learn grow. In Chapter 3 we look at the three pillars that support intellectual humility: having a small and big ego at the same time, being able to listen to contrary ideas and accepting limits to what you know.

Scholars were encouraged to question the theory and methodology behind their research and accept responsibility for conclusions that could not be replicated using newer methods. Contrarian views can help you overcome a confirmation bias and even appreciate the logic behind some aspects of an opposing argument. Even if you are not convinced, you will still benefit by being able to refute an opposing view in a better way. With this your arguments are likely to be more convincing and your position nuanced.
